A NATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS is to be convened in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 17 – 21, 2024. Lucan Oil Stadium is the selected site which has the capacity to accommodate 80,000 expected delegates from every diocese across our USA. The Congress itself is part of a concerted USCCB effort which was initiated on June 16, 2022; the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (a.k.a.: Corpus Christi). Local diocesan and regional Renewal events – such as last November’s “Deanery Assembly” will lead up to this Eucharistic Congress 2024. For all of San Antonio’s Archdiocese, notice has already been given by Archbishop Gustavo to keep Friday evening and Saturday (November 3 and 4, 2023) clear of any parish activity, liturgical devotion, retreat, wedding or quinceanera. Catholics throughout our area are to be available for participating in a Diocesan event – of which most details are still in the mind of the Holy Spirit. Our San Antonio Archdiocese has secured 250 tickets to form a delegation for the 2024 Congress. While each ticket is set to cost $350.00, they are currently discounted for $200.00. With demonstrated need, more can be secured. But other factors need to be considered as well for those who may constitute San Antonio’s delegation. Who among us will commit personal time and resources to participate? Transportation, lodging, meals, and other personal expenses will be ‘out-of-pocket’. The dates July 17 – 21, 2024 are a Wednesday through Sunday. The moment seems at a far distance yet it is already time to make real plans. Evidently, for 80,000 participants, shuttles from the venue to some hotels could be as much as an hour’s drive.
